It’s starting all over again

August 21, 2008

This is what…my third or fourth yearly post about the beginning of school?  Every year at about this time I begin wondering how I used to do it all those other years–of course, all those other years, I did do it, I just don’t remember.

It doesn’t help that I’ve also scheduled a full summer’s list of appointments into two weeks…and, if you know any teachers, you know that we try to put off all our appointments until summer. On this, the last week of the marathon, we’re crossing off a daycare visit, yearbook sales at registration, J’s allergist appointment, yearbook sales at registration, my all-important pre-school cut and color and an optometrist appointment.

And now that I’m looking at it, it looks pretty pathetic that I’m whining about it, but that’s because I must be getting back into my school frame of mind.  The transition between summer days–having nothing special planned for your days aside from taking care of breakfast, lunch and dinner (poorly, I might add), picking up after and minding the boy–and school days–being responsible for getting up at 5 a.m., getting some work done, getting J off to daycare and being a good teacher–is a little disconcerting to say the least.

Thankfully, the transition will soon be over. J’s looking forward to school–or at least, I think he is.  He asked me if he could go to school the day after we went to visit and play there for a few hours, so I think all is good on that front.  I’m looking forward to getting the whole thing going again, too…and until those wistful summer pangs begin hitting in the middle of winter, I’ll be happy to forget what it was like to wake up at 7 and spend all day, every day with my boys.
