We’re working on this kid pretty hard. I’ve been trying to brainwash him that my music is the best–he’s been able to headbang since the age of 14 months. His father, of course, is trying to imprint his own musical sense of style on him (and what that may be, I can’t define. I’ve heard bagpipes, Blue Oyster Cult, something middle eastern and They Might Giants in the last few days. Confused might be a good term).
J, though, is resisting it all. Wanna know what the up and coming high school graduates of 2025 are listening to right now? Backyardigans. Not the cool Jack Johnson CD I downloaded for him…no, it’s Backyardigans. More specifically, “Pirate says Arrr.”
J finds it very singable.
This comes from the boy who took months to learn any word but “Ike!” but who today learned the word “shart” in about a second.

Tanya says:
’shart’ LOL!!!
Ohhhh I know about those Backyardigans.
That’s a super cute shot…looks like he’s cruisin’ around listening to his tunes.

I LOVE that picture - the strap on his overalls that is hanging over makes the picture - what a great capture!

What a sweet picture! Our son likes Backyardigans too, but the music we play for him definitely matches your husband’s mix of music. From Andrea Bocelli to TMBG (Fuller like’s the family albums), it is interesting.

So cute! My kids are older, so I haven’t had the pleasure of the Backyardigans, but he certainly seems to be enjoying it!

Haha, that is adorable! They have their own little minds from the very beginning, don’t they?! I love this perspective from behind.

It would be hard to watch the Backyardigans and not have a tune in your head. They are very catchy. And I find that I do my best listening in the car, too. Adorable shot.

Ha ha — I think that you’re right, The Backyardigans is totally the hip thing to be into for the tot set. And I might have to admit from enjoying them a bit too…

My son went through a huge Backyardigan’s phase. We even had a CD to play in the car for him. I knew all the words! It did even come in handy since I taught at a preschool at the time.

Seamonkey’s music of choice is anything by Laurie Berkner and any spanish music with a fast beat. Weird kid.

My son is similarly obsessed with the Backyardigan’s “Racing Day” song, but “Arg!” is a close second. His mangled attempt at “Cowabunga!” (”Cowmamugga!) from the surfing episode is rapidly rising, however.
