The perils of teaching

June 11th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Maybe I have a sensitive nose.  Maybe I don’t.  All I know is that I’m coming THIS CLOSE to having the showering with soap and following with antiperspirant and clean clothes talk with a few 16 and 17-year-olds.

Seriously, I have no idea where these female teachers accused of having inappropriate relationships with their students could possibly be coming from.  Most of the boys boys, at least, usually don’t stink once they get past their freshman (or at the latest, sophomore) year, but they’re pretty much scraggly and unkempt looking until some magical moment after they leave high school.  No wonder I was happy to worship from afar while  I was in high school–it had to be from afar because otherwise I’d be smelling some offensive odor or noticing that their faces need some Clearasil applications and the worship would be no longer.

    Don’t envy you your job….

Having a 15yo who still just doesn’t get it…I have to stick up for some of the parents out there. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t MAKE it put the deodorant on…..sigh.

True. Boys are just of a different species than girls–Notice that I never said that I wouldn’t have issues with J :)

Yuck! That is surprising that the older students can’t get their cleanliness act together. Well, hopefully your school is out for the summer soon enough, and you won’t have to smell them during the intense summer heat. :o)

    bwahaha!!!

I used to teach high school & it amazed me how many teenagers had no clue about personal hygiene! The worst would be when the air in the classroom went out…I wanted to die!
