A recipe for the perfect Sunday

April 6, 2008

I have rediscovered the secret of a really relaxing Sunday afternoon. Here’s my current recipe:

Take one very active toddler, a dirty house, several phone calls and a people-related activity. Set the house to rights while talking to everyone who calls, exercise the toddler outdoors and complete the people-related activity by 1 p.m.

Then, put the tired toddler to bed and take a 2-hour nap.

That’s a relaxing Sunday afternoon.

I think just being able to go outside has really improved my outlook–and the 4 1/2-mile walks I’m taking with J’s sitter are SO nice. I feel good for getting my body in motion and it’s just nice to chat between huffs and puffs up and down the hills.

And J…J is loving the outdoors. I mentioned to my dad that he doesn’t seem to be too worried about staying close to a parent and will walk far enough away that he’s practically a speck against the brown sea of grass. Dad suggested that we put up snow fence for a play area so that we don’t have to tie him to our jeans when we are out in the yard weeding.

And, yes, I’m just kidding. I haven’t tried that. Yet.

Anyway, the snow fence is a good idea–ugly, but cheap and flexible. And with kids, I’ve learned that’s important!

Nothing wrong with doing that on a Saturday too…it’s what we did yesterday (it rained today). Isn’t great that just a little while out in the fresh air knocks them out good? I actually got a little sewing project done during nap time!

J is getting so big - he looks so much like seamonkey in that picture!

I think people get down in the Winter because they can’t get out and exercise. Good for you. And what’s a snow fence?
