I may have stopped getting up and put together before T sees me in the morning, oh, about 2 months into our almost 8-year marriage. I’ve definitely gained weight. I don’t hide some of my baser bodily functions anymore.
But, I’m still pretty damn good. Last night I picked up J, sat him in front of the TV and put in the magical Raffi CD, got out my corned beef recipe and started cooking. Then, I realized I didn’t have the apricot preserve I needed for the glaze and ran back to town, conquered the crowd at Walmart (and came away with a couple of cool fort/carnival thingies from Cranium normally priced at $69 for only $12–you can’t beat that for a good gift), came back, entertained J, and commenced the cooking.
By the time T had come home from conferences at 8, I’d made corned beef, cabbage and real mashed potatoes; fed J a somewhat nutritional meal; cleaned the kitchen; talked to two parents, a friend and four telemarketers and ordered announcements for a friend who just had a 10 and a half-pound baby.
Normally, I just get home, play with J, find something minimal to feed us and then slump in my chair for a couple of hours while doing schoolwork.
And, really, I know that corned beef and cabbage isn’t really all that hard, but it amazes me that something that used to be so easy and fast to do now seems to take over my entire evening. J has made things so much better, but, man, is he a little time suck. And just wait until the piano lessons and soccer practice starts in the evenings–I’ll NEVER be home, even though I don’t really want him to be too involved. Add my schedule to his and you’ll have a nightmare.
Maybe I’ll lose weight as a result.
Hmm.
There might be a positive side effect.

I too am quite skilled at the art of ‘time suckage’.
I’m always amazed at how long it takes me to do a menial task like….take a shower~lol

“ordered announcements for a friend who just had a 10 and a half-pound baby.”
This calls for at bare minimum a parade ;)
I think trying to be a superwoman is hard. I cook almost daily and every night when I sit down I’m amazed at how much time has gotten by me. Corned beef sounds so delicious and I keep reading about it (the season and all), maybe I’ll make one on Sunday in my slow cooker.
