You’ll never guess why the entire clinic staff remembers my son

July 11, 2007

J and I went to the doctor today to get my fasting blood draw done after my yucky-gross physical with a PAP yesterday.

J is an extremely cute kid and we do stick out–it’s hard to forget those eyes, if nothing else.  Still, we’ve not been to the clinic too much outside normal well-child checkups and our own physicals (usually sans-kid).  You wouldn’t expect that the lab nurses would be able to call my child by name when he’s not the patient.

Apparently, he went along on T’s last blood draw for his yearly a month or so ago. (Off topic rant:  his physical, not so icky, apparently.  Why do we have to have a hand stuck up our hoo-ha’s while another hand is pushing down from the outside?  Come on.  I could care less about those ovaries.  They’ve done nothing for me to this point in my life.)   Anyway, I was teaching or something, so he took J with.  Although I do remember telling T to make sure he combed J’s hair before they left, I didn’t put out an outfit for them or anything.  T is a big boy–I didn’t think I needed to go that far.

Apparently I did.  The lab nurses laughed when they saw my son, called him by name and then told him how adorable he looked today.  While one drew my blood,  she told me that one hot day T had brought J wearing a long-sleeved winter sleeper and hair all over the place.  There was much giggling and laughing as the story was told.

Hmmm.  Now, why was it so cute that T did that, but I’d have been called a horrible woman if I’d have done it?

don’t you just love that double standard? When my daughter was in daycare hubby brought her in w/ her hair a mess, a dress two sizes too big (I was saving it for later) and really funky socks while wearing sandals, and they all thought “how cute” and wouldn’t stop talking about it. Had I done that they would have called CPS for neglect!

I can totally understand why they would remember him, he is so frickin cute!

And funny thing is that my husband is the one who is all weird about outfits. He won’t allow Delaney to not match and I think it’s cute.

That is so something BT would do. In particular he has a penchant for putting socks on him that completely do not match his outfit. Drives me nuts.
