Making plans

November 3, 2006

Plan-making is the best kind of work–it doesn’t require real action, which might be a great deal of effort, and doesn’t require too much risk. I’ve encountered enough risk lately, so I think I’ve met my quota for the decade.

Another reason that plan-making is wonderful? Today it involves making flight reservations to Texas and planning out where we’ll be staying and what kind of car we get to drive. Yup, I talked to the adoption case worker yesterday afternoon and she told me to plan on getting flights for Wednesday, Thursday or Friday next week. WHOOO-HOOO!

I, as Miss Middle-of-the-Road and compromise (T doesn’t want to extend our stay there too long, although I want to see the babelet NOW), have chosen Thursday as the best day to travel and will be trying to find someone at an airline to be nicey-nice to me and give me open-ended tickets at a discount price. That’s what the case worker said to do, but I doubt it’s going to happen, so I imagine we’ll make a few plans and then just hope we don’t have to change the return dates and get charged way too much for tickets and change fees.

I’m sure I’ll have much to write about in my quest to find cheap tickets. I’ll be poor-meeing all weekend, I’m sure.

Case worker did say that all my paperwork is ready to go, aside from the FBI clearance, so the moment she gets those, she’ll be ready to send it to ICPC and, apparently, ICPC is pretty good between our states. Let’s hope so, at least. Not that I wouldn’t love a little vacation, but my lord, not with a two month old baby. I’m sure he would appreciate getting to know his own crib and cuddling with a non-stressed mom and dad. T gets silly sick every time we go to a hotel, which I attribute to his previously undiscovered anxiety-induced acid-reflux–so I’m not worried about it as he is now medicated, but just in case I don’t think an emergency room visit would be good for a babelet. Too many freaky-wierd germs, you know?

So is this a visit trip or a pick up trip? I am confused! Either way… you’re going to Texas! You’re getting a babelet!

Good luck with your plans. We just got back from ICPC with our new daughter. We ended up going Southwest one-way tickets — as the difference between two one-ways and roundtrip (+change fees) was tiny. We even found a cheaper one-way on the way back — so over all it was a wash (and not so stressful as changing tickets, IMO). In any case, congrats!
